Depop
shipping, explained
Resale-focused marketplace; mostly 1-2 lb parcels, mostly domestic US.
How it works natively
Depop Shipping uses pre-negotiated USPS labels tied to the sale.
- USPS Ground Advantage and Priority Mail at commercial rates.
- Shipping cost is paid by the buyer at checkout; Depop adds a handling fee.
- Label auto-generated when the seller marks the order as ready to ship.
- Tracking automatically updates the order and the buyer.
- First Class Package International for domestic-Canada and select markets.

What a typical Depop order costs
Most Depop sellers ship 1 lb parcels. This is the current rate table for that weight band from New York, NY to Los Angeles, CA.
- 01
Ground FedEx 4d $20.54 +$11.89 - 02
Ground Saver UPS 5d $8.65 cheapest - 03
Ground Advantage USPS 5d $9.26 +$0.61
Close call Only $0.61 (7%) separates the cheapest from the runner-up. Free USPS home pickup or a closer drop-off can erase this gap. Pick by convenience, not price, at this margin.
When to upgrade
When Depop's native shipping stops being enough
- Selling on Depop + another platform: unify in Pirate Ship or ShipStation to handle all labels in one dashboard.
- Shipping over 30 orders/month: Depop's per-order label flow is manual; Pirate Ship batches.
- Need carriers other than USPS: Depop is USPS-only; third-party required for UPS/FedEx.
- International shipments beyond Depop's supported countries: third-party with customs form generation.
Our recommendation
Pirate Ship
Free
The free USPS/UPS label printer that actually works.
Best for Side hustlers and sub-100-orders/month sellers who want free labels, no monthly fee.
FAQ
Common questions about Depop shipping
Q01 Is Depop Shipping free for sellers?
Buyers pay shipping at checkout. Depop takes a small handling fee from that, and the seller receives postage at USPS commercial rates. There is no out-of-pocket cost to sellers beyond the standard Depop commission.
Q02 Can I use my own labels instead of Depop Shipping?
Yes. You can opt to use your own label (via Pirate Ship, Etsy, etc.) and manually enter tracking. Buyers still see tracking in the Depop app.
Q03 What happens if a package is lost?
Depop's Seller Protection covers losses when you use Depop Shipping. If you use your own label, you file a claim directly with USPS. Depop Shipping is simpler for lost-package claims.
Q04 Does Depop work for international sellers?
Depop Shipping supports US, UK, and Australia for domestic labels. Cross-border sales require manual shipping outside Depop's tools.
